What to do If You are Afraid to go to Drug De Addiction Centre?

Afraid of Rehab?

It’s nothing to feel ashamed or isolated about. Fear of rehab is a natural reaction to the thought of spending a month of your life in an unknown place with unknown men and women. Maybe you’ve tried it before but cannot seem to stay sober for more than a month and are afraid of failure. Whatever may be the reason for your fear, it can be assured with certainty that there are far more reasons for you to try again than succumb to your fright.

If you have any reservations about rehab, I can personally recommend you to try de-addiction counselling

My thoughts and fears before joining a rehab

Before I visited my rehab, I was also plagued with fear about the place as well. However, after two months of my stay there, which was by no means easy, I thank my family for sticking to their decision.

  1. Fear of Withdrawal - Withdrawal is terrible, but trust me, it gets easier. The drug de-addiction centre in Newtown where I went, had a program specializing in the detox process which made it psychologically and physically easier for me to get through my withdrawal. The staff members and other recovering addicts also helped me manage my symptoms.

  1. Fear of Failure – I was so caught up in my addiction that I did not think I would be able to live without it. So, when I heard about rehab, I thought that failure would be inevitable. When I talked about this with my friend, they supported me and asked me to try de-addiction counselling. I signed up for some sessions before my visit to the rehab and the counsellor helped me get over my fear of failure.

  1. I’m not like the other addicts – This was the steepest barrier for me to climb out of. It was hard for me to think of myself as an addict. After I joined the drug de-addiction counselling, I realized how much of an addict I was. He helped me understand the nature of my addiction and the reason behind it and taught me techniques to suppress my desire to get high.
